“Getting to Know You”

Tera Hands, Choice Coordinator

This year, the Law Academy at PBL welcomed a new teacher–Attorney Jeffrey Van Treese.  Although he’s a lawyer, Mr. Van Treese’s teacher instincts kicked in from the moment he stepped onto the campus for his job interview.  Once hired last school year, Mr. Van Treese attended all of the academy’s special activities and big events.  He was on the scene for Law Week 2017, which consisted of a law field day, mock trial day, PBSO Static Display, Junior/Senior Social at the Law Office of Bryan Boysaw, induction ceremony for the Law Honor Society, and an awards ceremony/ice cream social with a keynote address by Attorney Salesia Smith-Gordon.  Mr. Van Treese made great use of the time at the end of the year and over the summer to prepare for  his law students.

On the first day of class, Mr. Van Treese was observed “getting to know” his pupils:  Each student had to stand in front of the classroom, introduce him/herself, and explain why he/she is in the Law Academy. His students have responded favorably to Mr. Van Treese.  We are all looking forward to a fantastic year in the Law Academy.
