Career & College Readiness!

Tera Hands, Choice Coordinator

Too often, schools stress the importance of being college ready.  Today’s graduate would do well to be BOTH college and career ready!

“Technological advances and global competition continues to transform the nature of work at an ever growing pace. As a result, jobs today and those in the future will require more knowledge, better skills and more flexibility than ever before.  But how and where do students start when choosing a career with so many career choices available?  A great starting place is with Career Clusters, Pathways, and Programs of Study (“Want to be college and career ready? Start here” http://www.palmbeachschools.org/9044ce/).

We have a buffet of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses at Palm Beach Lakes–from computers to culinary, and everything in between.  CTE programs offer students the opportunity to earn Industry Certifications in different areas of interest; with the certifications, students can go right to work after high school–whether they pursue a postsecondary education or not.

“To better prepare students for the 21st century and to help them graduate [high school] college and career ready, the Department of Choice and Career Options within the School District of Palm Beach County has developed Career Pathways encompassing Rigorous Programs of Study, to give students the academic preparation, direction, and career-related knowledge to help them plan studies that are in line with their interests, abilities, and career goals (“Want to be college and career ready? Start here” http://www.palmbeachschools.org/9044ce/).

Many of these rigorous programs of study are right here at PBL–Home of the Mighty Rams!  Get involved today, and get college and career ready!
