The Biotech “5”

Tera Hands, Choice Coordinator

Last school year, five Biotechnology Academy juniors passed the BACE Industry Certification exam, which certified them as Biotechnology Lab Tech/Assistants.  This year, these senior BA Techs are making waves on campus–particularly in the Science Department.  Instead of sitting in their Biotech class, they are assisting in biology, chemistry, and other science classes where labs and experiments are prevalent.  They mainly prepare the rooms and equipment for labs and experiments, but on occasion, they have been called on to solve some pretty weighty problems.  For instance, one science teacher asked a couple of the techs to take a look at his aquarium and, hopefully, figure out why the all of the fish were dying.  No problem!  The BA students tested the aquarium conditions and discovered the reason for the dead fish–too much sodium in the water, among a couple of other issues.  The academy and the school are proud to have certified lab technicians on campus.  Way to go, Team Biotech!
